Mikko is responsible for Hoivarakentajat's strategy and designated customer accounts. His goal is to develop new innovative solutions for the care sector together with the social welfare and healthcare companies, and other actors.
Mikko Vainioranta's path to Hoivarakentajat's Strategy Director started with business development. Soon his field of work expanded to include marketing and digitalisation of business operations.
– I find my work meaningful and important because I get to be involved in building a good everyday life for people with special needs.
Mikko has made a big change in his career, as before joining Hoivarakentajat he worked as a commercial pilot. Perhaps that is why he can look at the care sector with slightly new eyes – from a pilot's perspective.
– At the moment, I am particularly reflecting on the equation where resources in the welfare sector are decreasing and tasks and responsibilities are increasing. How then could the problem be solved? It is not enough to optimise a single building, no matter how advanced it is.
What if people were encouraged to move closer to services, closer to existing housing? What if we invested in increasing independent mobility so that some people who need support could live on their own, but still enjoy the services of a care unit right there? Could we use digital services to replace some of the services we today take home?
– These questions have been on my mind since I entered the field. The wellbeing services counties are struggling with resource adequacy, dependency ratios are declining and there is a shortage of social welfare and healthcare professionals. We need new and perhaps even a little bold thinking to overcome these challenges.
Mikko Vainioranta is suffering from log-infatuation.
– Logs are a wonderful building material. They come from a close distance, are soft to the touch and beautiful to look at. Care homes and daycare centres made of logs are low-carbon and sustainable.
