Hoivarakentajat is building a log-framed care home in Kuopio for its long-standing partner Attendo. The home for adults with developmental disabilities has been designed in close collaboration with Attendo.
The two-storey log home to be built at Havukuja in the Neulamäki district of Kuopio will offer 18 24-hour care places and 13 supported housing apartments. Each apartment on the lower floor has its own garden or terrace, and the floor also includes a communal club room. The new Attendo home is due for completion in early spring 2027.
This is a project development scheme created in collaboration with Attendo and real-estate investment company Northern Horizon. A fund managed by Northern Horizon will act as the property investor, while Attendo will serve as the service provider and tenant in the building constructed by Hoivarakentajat.
Massive timber supports a sensory-friendly daily life
The Havukuja home is the second massive timber unit that Hoivarakentajat is building for Attendo. Log construction is particularly well suited to housing for people with developmental disabilities: the natural acoustics of massive timber reduce noise, indoor air stays fresh, and the warmth of the wood creates a homely atmosphere. The spaces support a calm and high-quality everyday life for residents.

With the new Kuopio home, Hoivarakentajat and Attendo’s collaboration has now produced 31 homes across Finland. The long partnership is reflected in smooth day-to-day operations: planning and construction processes are clear and pay careful attention to the details required by each home’s residents and staff. Together, they also look ahead to the future needs of different resident groups.
